Board of Studies meeting about exhibition

We went to the meeting on Tuesday and gave feedback to Chris and the other tutors about this term.

This meeting was mainly for Year 2 to discuss and plan for the end of year exhibition at Espacio Gallery, which is the the first time the Fine Art course have held it outside City Lit.

Things for us to keep in mind for this time next year...

The schedule for planning begins around 3rd June and the final exhibition take down is 22nd July.

The private view is on 17th July and the show is on for 5 days.

There is also a corridor show at City Lit which is hung 5 days before the Espacio exhibition.  This is on for 3 weeks.

Some of the jobs that will need to be assigned:
  • Editorial/proof-reading of publicity materials
  • Design and creation of a programme (if it contains the City Lit logo, the City Lit marketing department will get involved in publicity)
  • Social media
  • Curatorial groups - Chris said this class time would be scheduled for this
  • A group of 8/10 students to hang the show
  • Labelling
  • A barman - the gallery can provide, or students can sign up to a rota
  • Invigilators for the 5 days of the exhibition - Chris suggested a rota of at least 3 people at a time for safety.
  • Running the visa card machine
  • Transport of work home at the end of the show (there is no storage for work at City Lit.)
Some of the Year Twos asked about selling work, Chris said we could talk about pricing work in class.

He advised not to sell work at a low price if it is your best work, as it could be exhibited again.

Tony said not to feel anxious about the show and not to see it as the end, but as the beginning. He also advised that people should make a good website, so that visitors have more access to your work. Chris said advice about websites will be scheduled into class time.
