Studio Printmaking Thursday Year 1, 12th + 14th June

Dear Thursday Year 1 group,
I am looking forward to working with you again on Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th June.
We will be revisiting Studio-based Printmaking with a strong emphasis on your own self-generated personal practice, something you must be increasingly thinking about at this stage in your course. you need to come to the sessions having given some thought to where your particular areas of interest lie and what printmaking may bring to an exploration any of these ideas.
For some of you who wish to continue printmaking next year these two sessions should provide a valuable chance to re-cap on the basic processes. We can also discuss longer more complex print projects you may have in mind so come prepared to work in the sessions and also to talk about future print plans if this is relevant to you. For others who are not as drawn to print the sessions could still be useful as a way of looking at an idea from another angle, for instance you may have ideas you want to explore in painting that could benifit from the immediacy of monoprinting.
We will have the same equipment and materials as earlier this year. It would be a good idea to bring anything you may wish to refer to ie current sketchbooks.

Experimental drawing project This SAT MAY 31ST 2014

In year 2 of the fine art course you will be asked to a personal project and we aim to fully support you in working in your chosen media.  One of the most important elements in developing a project is the ability to take an idea, subject or motif through different stages and through the process of transformation, open up new insights and possibilities for both yourself as artist researcher and for your audience in terms of how you capture their imagination and share your thought process.

This is the first of two drawing projects led by Tony this term, which aim to help you use drawing as a way of examining how you respond to a given subject and how through developed strategies in drawing, you can open up new perspectives on everyday experience.

Areas we will cover include:

Sensory interpretation.

Mark, pace and manipulating the image surface.

Transformation of scale and perspective.

You do not need to come with anything prepared , there will be a short presentation at 10.00AM and be prepared to follow the fast moving intuitive work you have done in 3d with Amanda .

Supporting Materials  

The presentation consisted of work visualisation diagrams, collected by American Author Edward Tufte. Probably one of the best living authors on how people make abstract concepts visual.

Dear Year 1 students we have been asked to let you have next year's term dates to help you plan time oustside the course .

Thursday group

Term 1

Thursday Sept 25th - Thursday 11th Dec  alternate sats are always 2nd sat in the month Starting 2nd October.

Term 2 

Thursday 8th jan - Sat 21st March . alt Sats from jan 15th

Summer term

Thursday 23td April - Thursday 19th july , alternate Sats from Sat May 2nd.

both groups also have the option of 4 Saturdays free in the printroom with tutition from Saturday feb 28th
